Leaving My Job & Preparing For The Dietetic Internship

I honestly don’t even know where to start about leaving my job. I loved working at WIC so much and I’m definitely going to miss it. My time there really fueled my love for working in community nutrition and I can’t wait to return to the field after my internship. My final day was last week. But from where I traveled for work, I had “final” days at each site. At Cabell, my friend Shelley made me delicious mini cherry vanilla chocolate chip muffins and double chocolate cake. My goodbye party was at Kanawha though. This was my home site. They threw a Mexican themed pot luck. My work sister and friend, Kadija, has been on maternity leave. She stopped by for the lunch and brought my favorite kind of baby–a big, fat, breastfed baby. It was so good to spend time with everyone. I hadn’t been at Kanawha lately, […]

Recent Eats #1

As a food blogger and just over all lover of food, I take a lot of food pictures. I’ve gotten it down to a science over the years. It doesn’t take me super long–just one quick shot. What I haven’t gotten down is actually posting all the photos. That takes a lot more time. Pulling up each app, crafting a caption, all those hashtags… I get caught up in actually eating and enjoying the food in front of me. After the meal and socializing is over, I’ve already forgotten to post my picture most of the time… because it’s on to the next event. Life man. But these eats are too good not to share. I mean that’s the entire reason I snapped the photos, right? So here are some recent eats I’ve enjoyed so far this summer. If you’re from the Charleston WV area you already know this gorgeous […]

Stuffed Summer Squash Blossoms

Saturdays are meant for Farmers’ Market. It’s just a simple fact. I love year-round Farmers’ Markets, but you can’t beat the produce available this time of year. I attend my local market religiously. Doing so has been a great way for me to really get to know my farmers. I always buy the same produce off the same farmers. Nothing beats a Gritt’s tomato. La Ja has the ripest blackberries. The past two Saturdays I’ve gotten to know a new (to me) farmer. Her table set up caught my eye because she had one bag of sunflower sprouts out for purchase and one she was snacking on. We immediately got to talking about nutrition. It’s rare to find someone who grows microgreens in my area. Likewise, it’s rare for a farmer to find someone who already knows about microgreens. This past weekend I visited her again hopeful to find some […]

June 2017 Favorites

Can I just say how glad I am June is over. GIRL, it’s a been month for me. It’s been a pretty exciting month with lots of great, happy things happening. But ya girl needs a break. My cousin Nick graduated from high school, turned 18, and had his parties for both. My cousin Michaela had her bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, and wedding. My stepdad had his birthday and we had dinner at our place for him and my mom. There was father’s day to celebrate with my stepdad and dad. We celebrated my friend’s birthday with a night out for dinner and drinks. That may not sound like much to some, but to an introvert (sometimes carefully disguised as an extrovert), IT’S A LOT. Oh, and we moved. Which meant all free time was spent packing, cleaning our old place and our new place. Now we’re […]
