June 2017 Favorites

Can I just say how glad I am June is over. GIRL, it’s a been month for me. It’s been a pretty exciting month with lots of great, happy things happening. But ya girl needs a break. My cousin Nick graduated from high school, turned 18, and had his parties for both. My cousin Michaela had her bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, and wedding. My stepdad had his birthday and we had dinner at our place for him and my mom. There was father’s day to celebrate with my stepdad and dad. We celebrated my friend’s birthday with a night out for dinner and drinks.

That may not sound like much to some, but to an introvert (sometimes carefully disguised as an extrovert), IT’S A LOT.

Oh, and we moved. Which meant all free time was spent packing, cleaning our old place and our new place. Now we’re working on getting things unpacked and thinning out our stuff–because there’s nothing like moving to make you realize you have too much stuff.

Now I can spend July getting things settled and preparing for my internship! 🙂

Okay, so let’s talk about the things that helped me through June…

1. ) Dunkin’ Donuts Stainless Tumbler and Iced Coffee

I love a good iced coffee. I also love a good loyalty program. Allow me to bless you with the inside information on Dunkin’ Donut’s refill program. Basically you buy one of their travel mugs, get your first fill free (sometimes a free donut) and from then on out all your hot or iced coffees and teas are only 99 cents!!! You bet your sweet ass I bought the biggest baddest tumbler they had. It was $14.99! That same tumbler would have definitely been double that price at Starbucks. They even have $5 tumblers that qualify for the same deal. YOU DA BEST DUNKIN’ <3 I’ve been definitely taking advantage of this tumbler and deal. My go to order is an iced coffee with unsweetened toasted almond flavoring with almond milk. It’s perfect. Since we’ve been in the moving process recently, we haven’t had access to our kitchen gadgets–aka idk where my Keurig’s at in all those boxes. This refill program has been saving me and Aaron each morning on our way to work. For the mornings my refill order is a hot coffee with almond milk.

2.) Stasher Reusable Silicone Food Bags

Becoming more sustainable has been one of my goals for 2017. One of the ways I’ve been able to do this for my house is to invest in these Stasher bags. They’re air-tight, self-sealing and nonplastic. Plus, they’re freezer, dishwasher, microwave, and boiling water safe! I order two Aqua ones originally. It’s hard to believe we’ve been using them since March! I loved them so much I ordered two more in early June in the Space Animals theme (shown above). I’m sure these were for kids but I have zero shame.  I love using these for my morning fruit snack or freezing my smoothie ingredients.

3.) La Croix

I tried La Croix for the first time back in May at the WVAND conference. Since then I’ve been experimenting in all the different flavors. I’ve found them on the low low at Aldi and Big Lots. My favorite flavors have been the curate blackberry cucumber and the curate cherry lime. They also make a great addition to a bottle of wine for some summer sangria!

4.) RX Bars

I love a good protein bar. They save my ass. They’re my safety net. I keep them in all my bags at all times. They’re perfect for someone like me who tries to plan their day, but life gets in the way. I use them to tide me over between meals. It’s great to avoid the temptation of getting fast food. I can reach for one of these and know I’ll be full until I can get home eat something better for me. Plus they’re good for when I’m rushing like a crazy person in the morning and forget my breakfast.

5.) Podcasts

I travel a lot for work. Sometimes my car rides can be as quick as 10 minutes (#blessed), but other times they’re 40 mins to an hour long one way. I wanted a way to make them more productive. I hate talking on the phone while driving. I’ve been considering audiobooks, but didn’t know if I’d end up liking it or not. A few dietitian friends via social media were listening to podcasts that were actually nutrition focused! This seemed like a great (free) way to see if I could pay attention to someone talking about nutrition while driving and actually enjoy it. Turns out I do enjoy it! My social media dietitian friend, Kim, recommended a few to me and I’m so grateful! I’ll do a blog on my favorite here soon. Right now, I’m really enjoying Rebecca Scritchfield’s Body Kindness Podcast!
